Mission

The Democratic Free Press provides a dynamic common venue for Democratic Party leaders, officeholders, and rank and file members on the Cape and throughout the Commonwealth to express their views on politics, policy, and governing, as well as to share interesting posts, news, and “tidbits” that readers might otherwise miss in the sometimes overwhelming modern digital political world.

Editorial Policy

The Democratic Free Press is published by the Sandwich Democratic Town Committee (SDTC) as a service to the Party and its supporters. The content of the Free Press reflects individual contributor’s interests, opinions and positions, and not necessarily those of the Committee, its officeholders, or its members. The Editorial Board of the Free Press retains the right to pro-actively pursue submissions on topics that in the Board’s view would be of particular value to readers and/or to the advancement of Party goals and objectives. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final determination of which topics/themes to pursue.

Out of a desire to attract both a wide range of interests and providing a convenient venue for individuals to share their interests The Democratic Free Press has both staff and guest contributors.  “Staff” contributors are people who make a commitment to provide the Free Press with a certain minimum of submissions over an agreed-upon period of time. They are, in effect, op-ed columnists and beat writers.  “Guest contributors”  includes people who submit news and information tidbits from time to time and people who occasionally get “fired up” about something and want to submit material or to write an opinion piece about it.

The Editors of the Free Press are the sole deciders of whether a particular submission should be published. In pursuit of breadth, variety, and diversity the parameters of appropriateness are wide. Ranting, incivility, ad hominem arguments, and inappropriate language are not within those parameters.
