Why a Newsletter? Today, effective communication is all about options and choices. Our modern communication environment is filled with options, especially in the digital world. And this is good because it has significantly broadened the choices we all have for how and when we want to be communicated with or provided desired information. Some people clamber for smartphone apps that feed them news and information. Others prefer to use social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The Sandwich Democratic Town Committee administers a fairly extensive web site, Facebook presence, and Twitter account. But we have found that local Democrats and Democratic-leaning Independents do not necessarily “live” in those digital environments to the same extent that others do. At the same time, everyone is pretty tired of a seemingly endless barrage of unwanted electronic mail. What to do?

You spoke; we listened! The answer came to us via visitors to our booth at the 2014 Sandwich Fest. Although they were reluctant to provide their email addresses for general communications they expressed strong interest in receiving a regular newsletter from the Committee. So, we are adding to our communication resources – a web site, Facebook presence, Twitter account and electronic mail – by producing a monthly newsletter. The newsletter is designed to let local voters know what’s going on with us; what projects or issues we are working on; what opportunities exist to help out with campaigns in electoral years; what speakers of interest will be at our meetings or those of other organizations around the upper Cape; and so on. The newsletter is sent to a subscriber list, and that list is  never used for any other communications. For those who prefer, we also place digital copies of the newsletter on our Web site so that people can download the current and past issues as they please.
